Isu Celaan Fisik dalam Cerita Pendek “Dinner Conversation”
Abstract
The short story Dinner Conversation tells about the problem of oppression perpetrated by a husband against his wife who is the main character of this short story. This research will reveal the oppression in the form of body shaming and its impact experienced by the main character. The research method used in this research is descriptive analytical method. The material object of this research is the short story Dinner Conversation by Corie Adjmi. Researchers use the appropriate theory to analyze objects by using the theory of feminist intersectionality, the concept of body shaming, and the theory of self-objectification. Based on this research, the results can be determined as (1) the main character named Callie experienced bullying in the form of chronic body shaming and (2) the impact of the incident of body shaming on her is that she feels a lack of confidence, anxiety, and hurt. This research is expected to contribute to future studies which will discuss in more detail about physical disapproval or matters related to one's beauty and appearance.
Abstrak
Cerita pendek Dinner Conversation menceritakan permasalahan mengenai penindasan oleh seorang suami kepada istri yang merupakan tokoh utama dari cerita pendek ini. Penelitian ini akan mengungkap penindasan dalam bentuk dan dampak celaan fisik yang dialami oleh tokoh utama. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif analitis. Objek material dari penelitian ini adalah cerita pendek Dinner Conversation karya Corie Adjmi. Peneliti menggunakan teori yang sesuai untuk menganalisis objek, yakni teori interseksionalitas feminis, konsep celaan fisik, dan teori objektifikasi diri. Atas penelitian tersebut, dapat ditentukan hasil dari penelitian berupa (1) tokoh utama bernama Callie mengalami penindasan berupa celaan fisik yang berjenis chronic body shame dan (2) dampak celaan fisik terhadap dirinya adalah kurangnya rasa percaya diri, kecemasan, dan tersakiti. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan kontribusi bagi penelitian-penelitian selanjutnya yang akan membahas lebih detail mengenai pencelaan fisik atau hal-hal yang berkaitan dengan kecantikan maupun penampilan seseorang.
